Armed police have sealed off a seaside town in Cleveland amid concerns for a woman's welfare.

Stand-off woman released

A woman who sparked an eight-hour stand-off with armed police at a quiet seafront has been released by police.

The 40-year-old, who brought the seaside town of Saltburn, Teesside, to a standstill on Tuesday is now in the care of her family.

She was arrested last night after hours of negotiations.

A woman's been detained under the mental health act. The 40 year old was arrested after a 9 hour stand-off with armed police in Saltburn.

The bomb squad was called to the seafront yesterday after the woman was seen acting suspiciously. Eyewitnesses say she was lying on the ground with a ruckasck next to her.
