Power back on after snow disruption

Power has been fully restored to Northern Powergrid customers in the North East and North Yorkshire after heavy snow left them without electricity.

Power supplies to nearly 100,000 customers were affected after strong winds and icy conditions caused damage to overhead power lines. 300 engineers worked on the repairs.

Power gradually returning to homes

1700 properties in the North East and Yorkshire are still without power after arctic weather hit the region.

The areas still affected are in the North Yorkshire Moors and parts of County Durham, where work to restore power is now being focussed.

A spotter helicopter has been deployed to help locate damaged overhead power lines and engineers are onsite.

Northern Powergrid are still trying to reconnect the power supply to thousands of homes across the Northeast and Yorkshire.

Engineers are carrying out repairs on 120 known faults. Work will continue into the night to restore power to the 12,000 properties still without supplies.
