Five arrested in racism raids

Suspected far-right extremists from the North East have been arrested by counter-terror detectives.

A 43-year-old man from North Tyneside, has been bailed pending further enquiries and searches at the North Tyneside address are now complete

But a 46-year-old man from Seaham, County Durham remains in custody at this time. Searches at the address in County Durham are now complete

So far, police have recovered a range of items from the addresses of all five of the people arrested today including computers, laptops and mobile phones.

The five were arrested under the Public Order Act, publishing or distributing written material which may stir up racial hatred.
