Council targets £142k income from its own business

Newcastle City Council says it is dealing with cuts by making money through its own businesses.

Mark Lamb, horticultural services manager, says the target from the council-run flower nursery is £142,000 in new income. The amount would be the equivalent of 5 jobs.They are looking at offering a tree surgery service for big landowners, or even down to cutting people's trees.


Council aims to "safeguard jobs"

Northumberland County Council says its goal is to safeguard jobs.

“We are simply having informal discussions with a range of potential partners on how we can deliver services more efficiently...but we need to be clear that this is only one of many options we are considering."
