The MP for Richmond, William Hague, has addressed those gathered in Northallerton to march against the proposed closure of the paediatric department at the Friarage Hospital in the town.
As part of his opening speech the Foreign Secretary said that people who live in rural areas 'deserve as good health care as those living in urban areas'.
Hundreds are gathering in Northallerton as a rally against the possible closure of a paediatric and maternity hospital in the town gets underway.
A rolling road closure has been put in place for the march which will take a route from County Hall to the Friarage Hospital at the Bullamoor Memorial Fields, beginning at 2.40pm.
