Man charged after distraction burglaries

A man has been charged after distraction burglaries in South Tyneside. On Tuesday, police received a report that two men had knocked on the door of a house at Simonside View in Jarrow and asked to search for a ball that they said had gone into the garden.

A similar report was received the next day. Cash was stolen during the incidents. Lee Robert Holmes, 35, of Beach Road in South Shields, has been charged with burglary and attempted burglary. A second 35-year-old man who was arrested has been bailed.

Two arrested after distraction burglary reports

Two men have been arrested after two reports of distraction burglaries in South Tyneside.

Two men knocked on the door of a house at Simonside View in Jarrow and asked to search for a ball that they said they'd lost in the garden.

The incident took place on June 19, one man stayed in the house while the other was outside. The couple living in the house later found cash had been stolen.

The next day the same took place except only one man knocked on the door, again it was an address on Simonside View.

Two 35-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of burglary. One has been bailed, the other remains in custody.
