Scientists have discovered a new particle which was first theorised by a Newcastle born physicist 50 years ago. Experiments in the Large Hadron Collider show it's highly likely to be the Higgs Boson.
This tiny particle is considered to be the missing link in our knowledge of how the universe works. It's named after Professor Peter Higgs and is considered to be one of the most important scientific breakthroughs.
