A murder investigation has begun after a fatal stabbing in Gateshead.
Police have named the man stabbed to death in Gateshead as Simon Meech.
Mr Meech, 46, was found dead in a flat in Rayleigh Grove, Bensham, Gateshead, at around 9pm on Saturday.
Karl Bestford, 35, of Rayliegh Grove has been charged with his murder and was due to appear in front of Gateshead Magistrates today.

The victim, who hasn't yet been named, died at the scene from stab wounds.
