Police are continuing to work with partners following heavy rainfall yesterday.

Various areas throughout the region were affected - mainly in South Tyneside and Gateshead - and there is disruption to roads and transport.

The Swing Bridge remains closed due to debris caused by the flooding. It currently remains closed and anyone travelling on the road is advised to find an alternative route.

All other roads have been reopened.

"There have been a number of disruptions around the force after a downfall of rain...we have been working with our partners to monitor the situation and ensure there is as minimal disruption to people as possible."
