A post-mortem examination is expected to take place today on the body of a teenage boy who drowned over the weekend.

16 year old Colin Dodds got into difficulty while swimming in the River Wear near Bishop Auckland on Saturday afternoon. Friends have described him as 'one in a million.'

Friends pay tribute to drowned teenager

Friends have described a sixteen year old who drowned in the River Wear on saturday evening as always happy and smiling. Colin Dodds was swimming with friends in Bishop Auckland when he got into trouble in the water.

Police, fire, search and rescue teams, the police helicopter, air ambulance and a rescue helicopter from RAF Boulmer all worked through the night to try and find him. His body was found in the early hours of this morning.

Flowers have been left in tribute to Colin Dodds, who was 16, whose body was pulled out of the River Wear by search teams early this morning. He had been swimming in an area known locally as the "black hole" near Bishop Auckland when he got into difficulty last night.
