Two people charged after Sunderland protest

Following the arrests of 13 people on october 6, at a demonstration in Sunderland, two men have been charged with being drunk and disorderly.

The two 32-year-old men are both due to appear before Sunderland magistrates court on October 26.

Eight men have been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of public order offences. Three others have been bailed after being arrested on suspicion of affray.

The protest was planned and despite promises of peaceful demonstrations, the police made arrests on both sides. Officers described the violence at the protest as disappointing.
