County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased. Our fire investigators are working closely with the Police to establish the cause of the fire. Local fire crews will be working in the immediate area throughout Tuesday offering free Home Fire Safety Checks and I would encourage people to check they have working smoke alarms and know what their escape plan is should a fire break out in their home.
