Police have named a man who died in a house fire in County Durham. The body of 45 year old Lakhbir Uppal, who lived in the property, was found in the bedroom of the ground floor flat in Sedgefield yesterday morning. Investigations are continuing, but the fire isn't regarded as suspicious.

Durham Police are investigating a fatal house fire in Newton Ayciffe. The blaze broke out in the early hors of this morning. A man died following the fire in the flat in Sedgefield.
A joint investigation by County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service and Durham Police is under way after a man died following a fire at a flat in Sedgefield earlier today.
At 01.45am this morning, emergency services were alerted to a fire in a ground floor flat in Wellgarth Mews, Sedgefield.
County Durham & Darlington Fire & Rescue Service sent three fire appliances from Sedgfield, Newton Aycliffe and Wheatley Hill. On arrival, firefighters forced their way in to the flat to extinguish the fire and retrieve a man from a ground floor room. Paramedics confirmed he had died at the scene.
County Durham & Darlington Fire and Rescue Service would like to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased. Our fire investigators are working closely with the Police to establish the cause of the fire. Local fire crews will be working in the immediate area throughout Tuesday offering free Home Fire Safety Checks and I would encourage people to check they have working smoke alarms and know what their escape plan is should a fire break out in their home.
