Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was stabbed to death in Washington in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police have made an arrested in connection with a fatal stabbing in Washington.

Andrew Lucas, 20, was found with stab wounds near his home in Warkworth Close, in the early hours of Saturday morning. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officers have since arrested a 45-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Washington stab victim named

A man who died from stab wounds in Washington has been named as Andrew Lucas.

The 20-year-old was found near his home on Warkworth Close at around 3:42am on Saturday morning. Neighbours say he was lying in a stairwell.

Police have launched a murder inquiry into his death. Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barret, from Northumbria Police, said:

"We are still asking for people with information about this offence to come forward. The investigation is ongoing, however we have nothing to suggest that there is any wider danger to the public."

Any witnesses or anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Warkworth Close in the early hours of this morning are being asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.

Officers were called out to Warkworth Close at 3:42am on Saturday morning, where they found a man suffering from a number of stab wounds. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have released a statement after a man was found with stab wounds in Washington in the early hours of Saturday morning. The 20-year-old was taken to hospital and pronounced dead.

Detective Chief Inspector Christina Barrett, from Northumbria Police, said:

"In the early hours of Saturday, November 3, police received a report that a 20-year-old local man had been found with injuries consistent with a knife attack at Warkworth Close in Washington.

"A murder investigation is now underway. We are in the early stages of this investigation and I would ask that anyone with information come forward and speak to one of our officers.

"We have also increased police patrols in the area and if any local residents have concerns they can speak to a member of their neighbourhood policing team, either in person or via the 101 non-emergency number."
