Hundreds are expected to hold a candlelit vigil in Sunderland tonight to raise awareness about violence against women.
Campaigners will set off on a walk in Tynemouth later today, November 25, to "highlight the hidden problems of domestic abuse".
The four-mile walk will bring together those who have experienced abuse, alongside abuse support organisations - including health agencies and North Tyneside Council.
50 balloons will also be released to commemorate victims of violence.
Claire Williams, Unison's Regional Convenor, says the 'Reclaim the Night' event is about raising awareness about domestic violence and how financial insecurity is making things worse.
An MP, women's charity and trade union are joining members of the public to walk through Sunderland to raise awareness about violence against women.
Sharon Hodge MP will join Wearside's Women in Need and Unison to walk from Memorial Gardens to Mowbray Park.
The event is part of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
