Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found dead in a block of flats in Elswick. Three people have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police have released the name of a man who was found dead Newcastle on Saturday, December 1st.

66-year-old Peter John McMahon, of Hawthorn Terrace, Newcastle, was found dead at the Sycamores in Elswick.

Two men and a woman, who were arrested on suspicion of murder, remain in custody.

Police believe that the victim and the arrested people were known to each other.

An investigation is ongoing into the full circumstances of Mr McMahon's death and we would particularly like to hear from anyone who knew him.

"I would urge anyone who recognises his picture or who knows Mr McMahon to contact police on 101."

Murder investigation underway in Newcastle

A murder investigation is underway after a man was found dead in Newcastle this weekend.

The 60-year-old was found at The Sycamores in Elswick at around three o'clock on Saturday afternoon (December 1st).

Two men, aged 53 and 76, and a 43 year old woman have been arrested and remain in police custody.

The results of a postmortem on the dead man are expected later today.

Three arrested after man's death in Newcastle

A murder investigation is underway after a man was found dead in Newcastle on Saturday.

The man, in his 60s, was found at The Sycamores in Elswick at around 3:42pm yesterday afternoon. Police say the cause of death is yet to be established and a postmortem is due to be carried out this evening.

Two men, aged 53 and 76, and a 43-year-old woman have all been arrested on suspicion of murder and are in police custody.
