Soldiers and families gather in York Minster
His Royal Highness the Duke of York and The Yorkshire Regiment are attending a Thanksgiving Service in York Minster. Soldiers from the regiment who are returning home from Afghanistan will also parade through the city.
A service of thanksgiving and homecoming for the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment is taking place at York Minster today.
The regiment, who routinely recruit in Yorkshire, has just come back from a six month tour in Afghanistan where seven of the 3rd Battalion's soldiers were killed whilst on active duty.
The Duke of York will be at York Minster today to take part in a series of events to celebrate the return of soldiers from The Yorkshire Regiment from Afghanistan.
A Thanksgiving Service is being held at the Minster during which the Warminster Military Wives Choir will be singing.
Ten soldiers from The Yorkshire Regiment were killed on operation during the regiment's six month tour in Helmand Province in Afghanistan.
Five hundred soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, The Yorkshire Regiment will also parade through the streets of York before being inspected by the Lord Mayor of York, Ccounillor Keith Hyman and the Colonel of The Yorkshire Regiment, Major General Graham Binns.
