Northumbria police areappealing for anyone with information to come forward after a suspected shooting in Benton yesterday.

Sixth arrest after Tyneside shooting

A sixth person has been arrested in connection with a shooting in North Tyneside. A 47-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Another 47-year-old man was shot on 14th December at 5pm outside the Wheatsheaf Pub, near the junction of Great Lime Road and Benton Lane, in Benton. His condition is not life threatening.

"There were people in the area and we need them to come forward with any information they might have about this attack.

"At this stage our enquiries indicate this was not a random incident and as such we do not believe there is a danger to the wider public.

"At this stage it appears the people involved are known to each other and it was an isolated incident. Additional patrols are taking place and anyone with any concerns should speak with their local officers."

A 42-year-old man and a 47-year-old man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have been bailed.

A 22-year-old man and a 21-year-old man arrested on suspicion of violent disorder have also been bailed, as has a 25-year-old woman who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Four arrested after shooting on Tyneside

Four people have been arrested in connection with a shooting outside a Tyneside pub.

It happened on Friday evening, December 14, beside The Wheatsheaf pub in Benton.

Three men and one woman have been arrested. Officers say the injured man was specifically targeted in the incident.

Northumbria police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward after a suspected shooting in Benton yesterday.

Officers were called to the Wheatsheaf pub at about 5pm after reports of a disturbance in the car park.

A man in his 40s was found with a suspected gunshot wound and taken to hospital.

No arrests have yet been made.
