Police are investigating the murder of David James Scott from Stanley, who was found with stab wounds two days before Christmas and died in hospital.
Renewed appeal for information after Stanley murder
Detectives investigating the murder of David Scott are continuing a public appeal for information to help build up a picture of the events leading up to the Stanley man’s death.
– Detective Superintendent Paul Goundry, Durham Police“We are following a number of specific lines of enquiry, but we still need to establish a motive for the killing and we have yet to recover a possible murder weapon.
We’ve spoken to a number of key witnesses who have provided significant information, but we still need to speak to anyone who can help us establish the events leading up to David’s death."
In total, four people, three men and a woman have been arrested in connection with David’s death and released on bail pending further enquiries.
– Detective Superintendent Paul Goundry, Durham Police“There may be people who may have seen him and his associates out and about in the South Moor area on the afternoon of Saturday, December 22, and into the evening. We want to establish where he was and who he was with in the last hours of his life.
We specifically need to trace two men who seen running in the back lane of Rose Avenue between
midnight on Saturday, December 22 and 2am on Sunday the 23rd."
The scene in Rose Avenue remains cordoned off as police work to establish every potential forensic opportunity.
House-to-house enquiries are continuing and CCTV footage from the area is being examined.
Stanley murder investigation appeal
Police investigating the murder of David James Scott have said they are keen to trace two men seen running along Rose Avenue in Stanley, County Durham at around the time he is believed to have died. 33-year old David from Stanley died in the Royal Victoria Infirmary early on Sunday morning.
He died from stab wounds. In total four people have been arrested in connection with David's death. One man and a woman have been released on bail pending further enquiries. Two other men remain in police custody.

As part of the investigation we would like to speak to these people and to anyone else who can provide information to help us piece together the events leading up to David's death."

Police murder investigation in Stanley: latest
David James Scott, of Stanley, County Durham, was found suffering stab wounds on Rose Avenue in South Moor, Stanley in the early hours of Sunday.
Three people were arrested and police are appealing for any other information.
One of the people have been released on bail. The other two people are still helping police with their enquiries,
Police launch murder investigation
A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dying in a back lane.
David James Scott, 33, of Stanley, County Durham, was found with stab wounds on Rose Avenue in South Moor, Stanley in the early hours of Sunday morning.
People living nearby tried to save Mr Stanley before paramedics arrived but he later died in hospital.
