Man in court over Christmas Eve murder

A man's appeared in court, charged with the murder of Lesley Caile in Hunwick, County Durham, on Christmas Eve.

Mrs Caile, a grandmother and social worker at Durham County Council, was found dead at her home. A man was also found injured in the house and airlifted to hospital, before being arrested.

Peter Edward Yorke, who lived at the same address in North View, has been charged with her murder. He was remanded in custody at a short hearing before magistrates in Peterlee, and is now due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday 31 December.

A man has been charged with the murder of a woman in County Durham.

The body of Lesley Caile, 48, was found at a house on North View in Hunwick on Christmas Eve. Forty-six-year-old Peter Edward Yorke has been charged with murder, and is due to appear at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Man questioned over social worker's death

Detectives are questioning a man that they have arrested on suspicion of murdering a social worker in County Durham.

Lesley Caile's body was found at her home in the village of Hunwick on Christmas Eve.

A man, who was found injured in the house and flown to hospital, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has now been taken to a police station to be interviewed.

Vicar 'shocked' at woman's death

Father Irwin Stewart, from the Parish Church of Saint Paul The Apostle in Hunwick, has spoken of his sadness at the death of Lesley Caile.

He said: "Very shocked and distressed by such an event.

"She was always smiling. Very personable. Often used to see her walking down the lane with her dogs. A good member of the community, and from a community family as well."

Council release statement after death of employee

Durham County Council have released a statement after the death of their employee Lesley Caile. The 48-year-old's body was found by police at a house in Hunwick on Christmas Eve.

Rachael Shimmin, Corporate Director of Children and Adults Services said:

"I can confirm that Lesley was an employee of Durham County Council, working as a Team Manager in children and adults services.

"Lesley was held in the highest regard by her managers, staff and colleagues both in the council and partner agencies and our thoughts at this time are with her family and friends, to whom we extend our deepest sympathy."

Police name woman found dead on Christmas Eve

Police have named a woman found dead at her home in Hunwick in County Durham on Christmas Eve. 48-year old Lesley Caile's body was discovered by officers at a property on North View in Hunwick near Crook at 11.15 am. A 46-year old man was also found injured in the house.

He was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough for treatment. His injuries are not life-threatening and his condition is described as stable. Durham police have confirmed that he has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police are appealing for anyone with information to call them on 101, or contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Lesley Caile was a mother of two, a grandmother to three children, and was employed by Durham County Council's children's and young people's services department.

Woman found dead and man injured in same house

A woman was found dead and a man found injured in a house in County Durham.

Police were called to a house in Hunwick, near Willington, Durham, just after 11.15am on Christmas Eve.

Officers found the body of a woman and an injured man who was airlifted to James Cook university Hospital in Middlesbrough.

His injuries aren't believed to life threatening.

The scene was cordoned off while an investigation is carried out and a arrangements are being made to carry out a post-mortem on the woman.
