A man's appeared in court, charged with the murder of Lesley Caile in Hunwick, County Durham, on Christmas Eve.
Mrs Caile, a grandmother and social worker at Durham County Council, was found dead at her home. A man was also found injured in the house and airlifted to hospital, before being arrested.
Peter Edward Yorke, who lived at the same address in North View, has been charged with her murder. He was remanded in custody at a short hearing before magistrates in Peterlee, and is now due to appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday 31 December.

Father Irwin Stewart, from the Parish Church of Saint Paul The Apostle in Hunwick, has spoken of his sadness at the death of Lesley Caile.
He said: "Very shocked and distressed by such an event.
"She was always smiling. Very personable. Often used to see her walking down the lane with her dogs. A good member of the community, and from a community family as well."
