Police comment on stolen firearms

Detective Inspector Paul Woods, from Northumbria Police said:

"At this stage there is no information to suggest any danger to the public. However, we recognise the theft could cause concern and I'd like to reassure people in the area we are doing everything possible to trace the firearms and the people involved.

"I'd urge anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible. There is an extra police presence in the area."

Any witnesses to the theft or anyone with information is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101.

Police search for stolen firearms

Police are appealing for information after three firearms were stolen from a car in Sunderland.

The weapons - a shotgun and two rifles - were taken from a vehicle in the vicinity of Old Mill Road in Southwick at around 12:48pm on Saturday. Some ammunition was also stolen. The guns are held legally by the car owner.

Officers are keen to trace the firearms and those responsible for the theft.
