Volunteers search for missing North Yorkshire woman

Volunteers gathered in North Yorkshire this morning to help search for Barbara Colling. The 68-year-old has been missing since the 28th January.

The teams searched the Newgate woods, near to Helmsley where she lives. Barbara, who has Alzheimer's, was last seen walking on the B1257 near Abbotts Hag.

Police appeal for volunteers as search continues

Police officers will again be out in force this weekend as they continue the search to find missing Barbara Colling from Helmsley.

Anyone who would like to volunteer to help in the search is asked to meet officers at 8am at the Newgate Bank viewing area, which is on the B1257 north of Helmsley.

“I greatly appreciate the time and energy of the volunteers who have already supported the search for Barbara.

If you can spare even a few hours to help I ask you to join the effort to locate Barbara.

Please contact a police officer at the viewing area who will be brief you about where the searches are taking place and how you can help.”

Appeal to trace vital witness in search for missing Barbara

Officers searching for missing woman, Barbara Colling, are appealing for a vital witness to come forward.

The man was driving a dark blue estate car south along the B1257 close to Newgate Bank, on Monday January 28th.

A witness told police that they believe the man driving the car exchanged waves with a woman believed to be Barbara as she walked along the road.

It is not believed that this man has yet spoken to the police.

“I am appealing to the driver of the blue estate-type car to come forward straight away as they may be able to give a more precise location as to where Barbara was last seen.

I ask them to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 1 and pass the information to the Force Control Room.”

Anyone who can help locate Barbara Colling is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police immediately by dialling 101, selecting option 1 and passing the information to the Force Control Room.

Police say they are now looking for a body after their seven day search for Barbara Colling failed to find any trace.

The 68-year-old Alzheimer's sufferer disappeared from her home in Helmsley last Monday.

Today, dozens of local people volunteered to help in the search.

They were joined by Mrs Colling's children who say they're now prepared for the worst.

Family of missing woman thank public for support

Barbara’s daughter, Lizzy Firmin spoke on behalf of the family to thank the public for their support in the search to find her mother, who has been missing since January 28th.

She said:

“We would like to express my thanks to all those who are giving their own time in an effort to find our mum.

The family all very much appreciate the support the local community have already given us.”

More volunteers join in search for missing Barbara

Police officers in North Yorkshire have been joined by more volunteers as the search for missing Barbara Colling enters its second week,

Over 70 people, including members of the local community, Park Rangers from the North York Moors National Park and members of search and rescue teams joined forces in the effort to locate her.

The teams searched the Newgate woods, Buxton woods, Birch woods and Laskill House areas near to Helmsley where the 68-year-old lived. Barbara was last seen walking on the B1257 near Abbotts Hag at around 9.30am on Monday 28 January 2012.

Police have intensified their search after failing to find any trace of a missing 68-year-old woman with dementia in the last week.

It is now seven days since Barbara Colling went missing and her family have joined police appeal for volunteers to take part in the search.
