North East soldiers who have been stationed out in Afghanistan on active duty are due to return home today.

Soldiers based in our region have returned home after a six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Troops from the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, part of 4 Mechanized Brigade, arrived back at Catterick Garrison in North Yorkshire today.

The service-men and women helped handover control from British forces to the Afghan national police.

Troops make emotional return home

Soldiers from the North East have made an emotional return home after a six month tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Troops from the 1st Battalion Scots Guards, part of 4 Mechanized Brigade, arrive back at base in Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire today.

The service-men and women have been helping with handover of control from British forces to the Afghan national police.

Soldiers return to the region from Afghanistan

North East soldiers who have been stationed out in Afghanistan on active duty are due to return home today.

Some of the troops from 4 Mechanized Brigade will however remain on duty in Helmand Province in Afghanistan.

The last soldiers from the regiment left Catterick Garrison to go on the operational tour last October.
