Police searching for missing York woman find a body
North Yorkshire Police say they have found a body in the woods where they were searching for a missing 73 year old woman. Sheila Sykes vanished from her home in Dunnington in York on Friday night.
Search teams have spent the weekend combing nearby Hagg Woods following information they received after a public appeal. Just before 6 o clock tonight, they confirmed that a woman's body has been found, however it has not yet been identified.
Volunteers join search for missing woman
Nearly 30 Members of Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue have joined the search for missing York woman Sheila Sykes.
The 73-year-old has been missing since Friday March 1.
Search teams are now focussing on Hagg Wood close to her home in Dunnington.
Search intensifies for missing York pensioner
Police searching for a 73 year old woman who's been missing since Friday are now focussing on woods close to her home in York. Sheila Sykes was last seen leaving her house in Dunnington in the city on Friday night but hasn't been seen since.
Her family say her disappearance is completely out of character. A police helicopter is now searching overhead at Hagg Wood, South East of Dunnington while Scarborough Search and Rescue volunteers comb the woods in their effort to find Mrs Sykes.
The nearby River Derwent will also be included in today's operation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
