Cisse happy with match-winner

Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse said he was "happy" after scoring a dramatic late winner during last night's Europa League victory over Anzhi Makhachkala.

With the tie at 0-0 and poised for extra-time, the Senegalese forward headed home Sylvain Marveaux's cross deep into injury time to send the St James' Park crowd into raptures. The goal proved to be the last kick of the ball as the final whistle was blown soon after.

Though his interpreter and team-mate Cheick Tiote, Cisse said: "I'm happy because I scored a really good goal and we won the game."

Pardew pleased with Europa League draw

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew says he's pleased with this season's UEFA Europa League quarter-final draw.

The Magpies have been tied with Portuguese giants Benfica, with the first leg being at Stadium of Light in Lisbon on April 4th.

Pardew said: "They're top of the league. They're going well, and it's a fantastic history. Perhaps even better than our own."

The Newcastle boss added that he was glad his side avoided Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham in the draw.

Newcastle United's manager Alan Pardew said his side had put one of the best teams out of the Europa League in the 1-0 victory over Anzhi Machachkala last night.

He said his team could go on to win the competition - but must not get carried away.

"I do honestly believe that we have put one of the best sides out of this competition," he said. "They caused us a lot of problems. They have outstanding individual players in every area, really. We have beaten them, albeit with a slight bit of good fortune in this tie, so we can go on and win it. "

João Carlos looking to restrict Newcastle chances

Anzhi Makhachkala defender João Carlos says his side will try to restrict Newcastle United's chances to score during their UEFA Europa League clash at St James' Park tonight.

The Magpies must outscore than the Russian club in order to progress to the quarter-finals. However, after drawing 0-0 in the Luzhniki Stadium last week the Brazilian is confident an organised Anzhi team can limit the amount of shots the home side have.

He said: "I thought that in the first game they came to play a little bit at the back to keep the result. So you didn't get goals.

"But we have also very good organisation. It starts at the front with Eto'o so with everybody it's good organisation. That's the reason you don't get many shots. So I hope we can do a great job, and don't let them create many chances here."
