No overall control in Northumberland

In Northumberland Labour gained 15 seats to bring their total to 32.

But that was still two seats short of an overall majority, leaving it a hung council.

The previous ruling Liberal Democrat's had a bad day, losing 15 seats and leaving them with only 11.


Save our Friarage candidate wins Richmond seat

Independent candidate Stuart Parsons, who used to be a Lib Dem, has won a seat in Richmond for the 'Save our Friarage' group

An independent candidate representing the fight to save consultant led maternity services at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton has won a seat on North Yorkshire County Council.

Stuart Parsons stood in the Richmond ward for the 'Save our Friarage' group.

The results of the by-election in Pallister Ward held on Thursday, May 2:

David Cottrell, UKIP 262

Zoe Greaves, Conservative 29

Gary McArthur, Lib Dem 27

Mick Thompson, Labour 608 (Elected)

Turnout 21%

The by-election was called following the resignation of Councillor Barry Coppinger who was elected as Police and Crime Commissioner for Cleveland in November 2012.
