Welch: "Main objective is just getting promotion"

Newcastle Falcons captain Will Welch says winning promotion is the club's "main objective" and it doesn't matter how they achieve it.

The Falcons face Bedford Blues in the RFU Championship Playoff Final first leg tonight, with the return leg at Kingston Park on May 29th. Speaking ahead of the tie, Welch says the end result is all that matters.

He said: "We said from the beginning our main objective is just getting promotion and however we do that it doesn't really matter to me, we've just got to get up there."

Gopperth "relaxed" ahead of playoff final

Jimmy Gopperth says Newcastle Falcons are "relaxed" and "looking forward" to their RFU Championship Playoff Final first leg against Bedford Blues tonight.

The club travel to Goldington Road this evening and will be hoping to win promotion to the Premiership in the return leg at Kingston Park on Wednesday 29th May.

Gopperth, who is leaving the Falcons for Leinster at the end of the current campaign, says he hopes to end the season on a high.

The Fly-half said: "Nothing would please me better than to lift that trophy at the end of the two games and have the satisfaction that the boys are going to be back to where they belong and playing in the top flight."
