The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has been visiting two companies in County Durham where almost 300 jobs have been created or safeguarded with money from the Regional Growth Fund.

He met young apprentices at CAV Aerospace in Consett and launched a Liberal Democrat campaign to create a million new jobs nationwide.

Mr Clegg said he wanted to see the number of companies offering apprenticeships doubling to 200,000.

Deputy PM announces money to protect jobs

The Deputy Prime Minister is announcing grants from the Government's Regional Growth Fund to help create and protect jobs in the North East.

This morning Nick Clegg visited CAV Aerospace near Durham, which manufactures aircraft components such as ice protection systems.

They are receiving £1.4 million which, with £8.2 million of its own investment, will generate 78 jobs and keep another 105.
