A train journey from another time.

Travellers in Victorian dress mixed with modern passengers as a special service left Newcastle Central Station to mark 175 years of the coast to coast route.

Celebrations have been planned along the line from Tyneside to Cumbria.

The Tyne Valley Line is celebrating a special birthday.

The route between Newcastle to Carlisle railway was completed 175 years ago on the 18 June 1838.

It's considered to be an important link between Cumbria, Northumberland and Tyneside.

Celebrations and activities are taking place along the railway line between Newcastle and Carlisle as the route celebrates its 175th anniversary.

A brass band played as trains departed from Newcastle Central Station, and many other events have been planned at stations along the line.
