The Bishop of Newcastle, the Rt Reverend Martin Wharton, has told ITV News that he think it is "very appropriate" that East Coast have named a train after Durham Cathedral - and particularly during a summer when it will be on show to thousands of visitors.
Celebrations have been held as East Coast have named one of their trains after an iconic North East landmark.
The electric locomotive has been renamed Durham Cathedral - in recognition of the importance that the building plays to the local community and far beyond.
Members of the Durham Choristers choir performed on the platform at Newcastle Central station this morning, and the train was blessed by a member of the clergy.
Thousands are expected to visit the cathedral this summer with the return of the Lindisfarne Gospels to the region, where they are being exhibited next to the cathedral
