Gateshead International Stadium will host the Australian athletics team before next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The Australians have chosen Gateshead because of its world-class facilities.
The athletes will help to coach the next generation of North East sporting stars. Katie Oakes reports.
Gateshead Council leader Mick Henry (below) says the borough is ready to host the Australian athletics team before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year. He says Gateshead Stadium has been improved and refurbished and is now world class.
Mick Henry, Gateshead Council Leader and Simon Nathan from Athletics Australia sign memorandum of understanding. It is to confirm the Australian team will use the stadium as their holding camp before the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow 2014.
The Australian Athletics team will be based at Gateshead International Stadium in the run up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The whole team will be there and will work closely with local athletes and school children.
