A murder investigation has begun after a man died at a seaside resort in North Yorkshire.

Men charged over Scarborough murder

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Scarborough have charged two men with murder.

The men aged 34 and 29 were arrested following the death of 41-year-old local man John Binns at an address on Eastborough on Wednesday 7 August.

They have also been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

Two other men, both aged 30, have also been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.

One of the men also faces a charge of assisting an offender.

All four men have been remanded in police custody and will appear at Scarborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday 12 August.

Detective appeals for witnesses to Scarborough murder

The officer leading an investigation into the death of a man in Scarborough has asked anyone who saw four men in the area on Wednesday evening.

"If you were in the Eastborough area between 9.30pm and midnight on Wednesday 7 August, I urge you to come forward and contact Scarborough CID straight away as you may have vital information that could help our enquiries.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a group of four men as they left the scene, one of who was wearing a pair of light coloured tracksuit bottoms. It is possible that they dispersed and made their way individually towards Queen’s Terrace, between 11.30pm and 11.45pm."

Police thank public for co-operation with murder inquiry

North Yorkshire Police have issued a statement thanking local people in Eastborough, in Scarborough, for co-operating with investigations after a man was found dead this morning.

"I would like to thank the residents and business owners on Eastborough for their patience and understanding while the road was closed. I am sure they recognise the importance of gathering all of the crucial evidence regarding following this very tragic incident.”

Murder investigation in Scarborough

North Yorkshire Police were called by the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, which had attended a serious assault at an address in Eastborough on Wednesday night.

Despite the efforts of paramedics a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four men were arrested a short time later at an address on Queen’s Terrace, Scarborough. They are being questioned by detectives.

A murder investigation has begun after a man died at a seaside resort in North Yorkshire.

The man, who has not been identified, died shortly after police were called to reports of an assault at a flat in Scarborough at about midnight.

North Yorkshire Police said four men had been arrested in connection with the inquiry.

Eastborough is currently closed and is expected to remain closed while investigations are underway.
