Police increase patrols after women raped

Northumbria Police say they're increasing patrols in Newcastle city centre to reassure the public after two women were raped within 24 hours.

The first attack happened early on Friday morning on Dispensary Lane, at the back of the Gate Complex.

A 19-year-old woman says she was raped by a man she'd met earlier in a bar.

He's described as having orange and white face-paint under his eyes and on his forehead.

Early on Saturday morning a 46-year-old woman reported that she'd been raped on a grassed area close to the City walls.

She'd met her attacker in a smoking area outside another bar.

A police spokesman says the two incidents are not thought to be linked.
