Family pay tribute to "happy-go-lucky" man in fatal crash

The family of a man who died after being hit a bus in Stanley have paid tribute to a "happy-go-lucky man who would have done anything to help anyone."

“Darren was a well-known and popular figure around the town of Stanley, having lived in the area all his life. He had many friends in the town with whom he enjoyed socialising and he had been on a night out when he was involved in this tragic accident.

“He was a ‘happy-go-lucky’ lad who would do anything to help anybody. He was particularly fond of spending time with his grandma, the rest of his family and his American Bulldog ‘Metz’.

“He will be much missed.”

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died after being hit by a bus in Stanley.

It happened at 11.15pm on Friday 23 August as Darren Lee, from Stanley, attempted to cross a dual carriageway on Rotary Way.

The 31-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the bus, a 58-year-old man, was uninjured.

A number of passengers were also on board the vehicle at the time, none of whom were injured.
