Northumbrian Water has launched an investigation into the flash floods which hit Teesside late on Friday night.
Redcar, Saltburn and areas of East Cleveland were all badly affected with cars washed away, pensioners carried to safety - and birds at an Owl Centre sadly drowning in the deluge.
Three days later and residents whose homes were flooded are asking why the defences failed to protect their properties.

Parts of the Cleveland Force area are suffering flooding following several hours of heavy rain.
Between 50 and 60 households in Redcar were evacuated, but just one household needed emergency accommodation.
There are no reports of anyone unaccounted for or injured at this time.
