Dr Lincoln Sargeant, North Yorkshire Director of Public Health, says that most people in North Yorkshire have at least one 'risk factor' - this could be being overweight or smoking. He wants people to recognise the dangers and make lifestyle changes.
New figures show the number of people binge drinking in North Yorkshire is significantly higher than the national average.
The findings are part of a report by the county's Director of Public Health, Dr Lincoln Sargeant.
Estimates suggest that 24.2% of adults in the county are obese.
Researchers also found big discrepancies in life expectancy across the county, in some cases a difference of eight years.
The report shows stark differences in death rates between communities, with the highest rates of early death in more deprived areas.
The county also has an ageing population.
Dr Sargeant says they will now target the support they offer.
