Police have had an overwhelming response following a national television appeal to help solve the murder of a child 21 years ago.

The body of 7-year-old Nikki Allan was found in a derelict building in Sunderland - she had been stabbed 37 times.

Detectives are following a number of new leads after the case featured on BBC's Crimewatch programme.

However, Nikki's mother says she cannot allow herself to dream that her fight for justice could be a step closer.

She had been battered over the head with a brick and stabbed 37 times.
