Prison job losses: MP speaks out

Up to 200 jobs are to go at a Northumberland prison.

HMP Northumberland, near Amble, houses more than 1,300 male prisoners. From December it will be managed by private firm Sodexo Justice Services which plans to reduce staff.

The prison officers union claims the company is putting profits ahead of safety. Berwick MP Sir Alan Beith has also expressed concern.

Families head to London for Foreign Office demo

A family from County Durham, whose son died suddenly in France, are calling for more help from the Foreign Office for people who've had a relative die abroad.

31-year-old Andrew Watt was found dead in a country lane 140 miles west of Paris in 2010.

His parents, Julie and Les Sheppard, say they had to battle with the French authorities to get information about what had happened.

They have organised a big demonstration in London due to take place later today.
