Suspect charged with murdering Darlington man

A man has been charged with murdering Alan Youngson, whose body was found in a shallow grave two months after he disappeared.

A man has this morning appeared before Peterlee magistrates court charged with the murder of Alan Youngson from Darlington.

Daniel Dodsworth aged 28 from Branksome Green in Darlington was remanded to appear at Teesside Crown Court on Wednesday 16th October.

Four other men who had been arrested on Friday have all been bailed until December pending further enquiries.

A 22 year old woman from York and a 30 year old man from the North Road area of Darlington were arrested yesterday on suspicion of assisting an offender and have also been bailed until December pending further enquiries.A post mortem examination concluded that Mr Youngson died from head injuries.

There has been much police activity in Darlington over the last few days in relation to this investigation and I would like to thank members of the community for their support and patience. Anyone with any information they feel would assist on-going enquiries is asked to get in touch with police."

Police believe Darlington murder is isolated incident

The detective leading the investigation into the murder of missing Darlington man Alan Youngson says his team believes this is an isolated incident.

Five men, aged between 28 and 38, from the Branksome, Cockerton and North Road areas of Darlington, have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Although we are still working to formally identify the body we found on Monday evening we are pursuing this investigation on the assumption that it is Alan and his family have been informed of this.

This morning my officers have arrested five local men in connection with Alan’s murder and they are currently in police custody.

Something like this happening in any community is shocking and upsetting but I would like to take this opportunity to reassure people that we believe this to be an isolated incident and that people should not be worried or concerned.

Five arrested on suspicion of murder of missing man

Five men have been arrested on suspicion of the murder of a missing man from Darlington.

Alan Youngson was last seen on August 15. A body was found in woodland near the A1 at Darlington on Monday evening.

Police say although they haven't formally identified the body, they are progressing on the basis the body found in the woods is Mr Youngson.

Five men, aged between 28 and 38, are being held at police stations across County Durham.

Murder probe launched after body found buried

Police have confirmed that a murder investigation has started, following the discovery of a body in woodland in the Darlington area.

Police searching for missing man Alan Youngson found the body after being alerted by a concerned member of the public.

The body, which was buried. was found in the Branksome area of the town in a wooded area at the end of Jedburgh Drive towards the A1 motorway. No formal identification has been made at this stage. Alan Youngson has been missing from his home in the Darlington area since August 15th.

The investigation is in its very early stages, with our current key line of enquiry to formally identifythis man. Alan Youngson remains amissing person and work is on-going to establish his whereabouts. The area where the man was found remainscordoned off to allow for a full forensic examination and CID officers will becarrying out house to house enquiries in the Branksome area near to where thebody was found.”

Body found near A1

Police searching for a missing 25 year old from Darlington have found a body.

The body was discovered in woodland near the A1. There hasn't yet been any formal identification.

Police had been searching for Alan Youngson who hadn't been seen for nearly two months.
