A driver from Sunderland has died after being involved in a crash on the A1(M) in County Durham.
The incident occurred on the northbound carriageway between J60 at Bradbury and J61 near Bowburn, at around 1:15am on Sunday. A Red Renault Clio collided with a white articulated HGV towing a trailer.
The driver of the car, a 45-year-old man from the Sunderland area, was taken to Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital and died of his injuries. The lorry driver, a 59-year-old man from Chester-le-Street, was uninjured but treated for shock.
Any witnesses to the crash are being urged to contact Durham Police on 101.
