Overhead line problems between Grantham and Peterborough are affecting East Coast services.
Passengers planning to travel through this section of the East Coast Main Line are urged to wait till tomorrow.
All East Coast tickets dated for travel today will be accepted tomorrow.
A limited service is operating via an alternative route avoiding the affected area.
Replacement road services are also in operation between Peterborough and Newark, and passengers are also able to use alternative routes via Manchester and Leeds to travel to and from the North East.
MPs travelling from the North East to London to get back to parliament have been stuck on trains with thousands of other passengers due to problems with cables on the east coast line.
Newcastle Central MP Chi Onwurah tweeted:

Thousands of passengers have been stuck in delays on the East Coast mainline today, due to problems with cables.
Among them were several MPs travelling from the North East to London to get back to parliament.
