Thousands of people from the North East have started their Christmas breaks - on the road, by rail and by air.
East Coast, who run the main railway line through the region are recommending people allow extra time for their journey.
One of the busiest places over the next few days will be Newcastle Airport, which is expecting to see an increase on passenger numbers from last year. They will even be running flights on Christmas Day.
Gregg Easteal reports from behind the scenes at the airport.
While some are driving home for Christmas, other families from the North East are flying away - from winter sun, to skiiing holidays.
People arriving home for Christmas were greeted by excited family members at Newcastle Airport this morning.
The Friday before Christmas is one of the busiest days of the year on our roads, railways and at Newcastle Airport, which will handle 900 flights between now and New Year's Day.
