A cyclist has died after a collision involving a lorry on the A68.

Police have named the cyclist who was involved in a collision on the A68 yesterday as 24 year old Anthony Winter from Darlington.

Anthony Winter was pronounced dead at the scene after a crash with a lorry near Burtree Lane.

The driver of the lorry, a 50 year old man from Barnsley was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Lorry driver arrested over fatal A68 accident

A lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a cyclist died in a crash near Darlington this morning.

It happened on the A68 at Burtree Gate at about 8am. The cyclist was a 24 year old man from Darlington. The road was closed for several hours but has now reopened.

Police appeal for witnesses after fatal collision

Durham Police are appealing for witnesses after the death of a cyclist on the A68 in Darlington.

Sergeant Jon Curtis said:

"I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision and would ask them to come forward. I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the cyclist, who was wearing florescent clothing, riding a black mountain bike and travelling westbound on the A68 immediately prior to the incident."

Lorry driver arrested after death of cyclist

Police have arrested a lorry driver after a cyclist was killed in Darlington this morning.

The 24-year-old collided with a lorry on the westbound carriageway of the A68, about quarter of a mile west of Burtree Lane. He was pronounced dead at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.

The driver of the lorry, a 50-year-old man from Barnsley, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and is currently helping police with their enquiries.
