Police are continuing to investigate an assault at Simonside Hall in South Shields.

Armed officers were called to reports of a stabbing in the early hours of Saturday morning. A man and a woman were taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers are still looking for a man in connection with the incident.

Police reassure residents after South Tyneside assault

Police are reassuring residents after an assault on South Tyneside.

A man and a woman were taken to hospital for treatment after the incident in Simonside Hall at 2:42am.

Officers are searching for a man in connection with the attack. The offender is described as being white, around 30 years old and was wearing a grey tracksuit and dark blue hooded top.

Chief Inspector Aiden Sloan, from Northumbria Police, said police will be on patrol in the area.

"Such incidents are rare but local residents will have seen a number of officers in the street in early hours of this morning. Local neighbourhood officers will be in the area throughout today to support and reassure the local community."

Police appeal after South Tyneside assault

Police are appealing for information after an assault on South Tyneside.

Officers were called to an address in Simonside Hall after reports of a stabbing around 2:42am on Saturday. A man, suffering from a head injury, and a woman, with a minor injury, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Enquiries are ongoing to locate the offender, who is believed to be known to the victims.
