A boy is in hospital after a crash involving a police car on January 22.

Police car crash referred to IPCC

Northumbria Police has referred a crash involving a police car and a child on a scooter to the IPCC. An 8-year-old boy is in hospital with injuries that are not life threatening following the incident. The police say the matter has been referred to the IPCC in 'accordance to procedure'.

"A full investigation will be carried out to establish the circumstances of the collision and extra officers will be in the area to inform residents about the incident and offer them reassurance and answer any concerns they may have"

8-year-old in hospital after police car crash

An 8-year-old boy is in hospital after a crash involving a police car. The collision happened at 6.30pm on January 22 in Vicarage Lane in the Silksworth area of Sunderland. The child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the police car was not injured.
