Police say the collision involving an 8-year-old boy on a scooter and a police car happened at Warwick Terrace, at the junction with Lincoln Avenue, in the Silksworth area.
Northumbria Police has referred a crash involving a police car and a child on a scooter to the IPCC. An 8-year-old boy is in hospital with injuries that are not life threatening following the incident. The police say the matter has been referred to the IPCC in 'accordance to procedure'.

An 8-year-old boy is in hospital after a crash involving a police car. The collision happened at 6.30pm on January 22 in Vicarage Lane in the Silksworth area of Sunderland. The child's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the police car was not injured.
