Police end pub search for murder victim's remains

Police searching for the remains of a suspected murder victim have ended their search.

Detectives looking for Kevin John Palmer who went missing in Hampshire on March 12, 1999 say they have not found anything at the former Gordon Arms pub, in Gordon Road, Fareham.

Mr Palmer was last seen after a night out with friends, he took a taxi back to Bishops Waltham with two friends.

Mr Palmer who was aged in his 30s in 1999, has never been found.

Detective Superintendent Paul Barton said: "The investigation into Mr Palmer’s death continues.

“As a result of widespread media coverage earlier this week we have had a number of people come forward with information which we will be looking at, this may provide new leads."

15 year mystery - the search goes on for missing man

Police in Hampshire will continue their search of a former pub on Wednesday, where they are looking for the body of a Sunderland man who went missing fifteen years ago.

Kevin John Palmer went missing in Fareham after a night out with friends.

Detectives believe he was murdered and say they're following up new leads after a routine cold case review.

New information "justifies search for human remains"

"A recent assessment of information received about the whereabouts of Kevin John Palmer prompted a line of enquiry, which has taken us to this address in Fareham.

"We are not able to give more details about the source of this information because of sensitive and confidential circumstances.

"Nevertheless, the considered opinion of our detectives is that this information justifies a search for human remains within the garden of the former Gordon Arms pub.

"The information is tangible enough to be examined in more detail at the scene - but it is in no way certain that any evidence will be found.

"Therefore, it's important for everyone involved with or affected by this case to be cautious with their expectations."Mr Palmer's immediate next-of-kin were informed by police in advance of this search beginning.

"I would like to thank the current owner of this property for his co-operation and understanding.

"No current or former residents of this address are under suspicion of any crimes."

Tip-off justified a search "for human remains"

Hampshire Police said information which led them to a disused pub Fareham indicated that it was worth searching for the remains of a body.

Teams are working at a disused former pub, the Gordon Arms, in Gordon Road, Fareham.

DS Barton, who is the senior investigating officer on the case, warned that it wasn't certain that anything would be found.

Police dig up former pub in search for murder victim

Police have begun searching for the body of suspected murder victim at a disused pub in Hampshire.

Kevin John Palmer went missing in Hampshire on 12th March 1999 after a night out with friends.

He disappeared shortly after arriving the UK from Spain, where he had been living. He has never been found.

Detectives from Hampshire's Major Investigation Team (HMIT) are pursuing leads following a recent routine cold case review.

A search for Mr Palmer’s body and related evidence is underway in the garden of a disused former pub, the Gordon Arms, in Gordon Road, Fareham.

Police entered the property this morning, 4th February 2014 and sealed off the grounds for examination by specialist officers and equipment.
