NHS Trust responds after discovery of man's body in clinic

An investigation is underway after the discovery of a man's body at a clinic in Newcastle.

Gary Smith was reported missing on 31st March.

Police say the body was found in a secure area of the Hadrian Clinic on the city's Westgate Road on Friday 25th April.

The clinic was attended by Mr Smith and is run by the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, which is responsible for mental heath services.

It has responded with the following statement:

"We would like to express our sincere sympathy to Mr Smith's family.

This matter is subject to police investigation, and we are cooperating fully with that investigation. The Trust will not be making any further statements at this time."

Police on Tyneside are continuing to work with the Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust to establish the circumstances around the discovery of a body in a Newcastle clinic.

Officers, who have been searching for Gary Smith from Wideopen, were called to the Hadrian Clinic on Westgate Road yesterday, Friday, April 25.

The 52-year-old has been missing since March 31.

Mr Smith's family has been informed.

At this stage, the death is not being treated as suspicious.
