Eric Ireland, who was 77, died after his car was struck by a train on a level crossing near Rillington.

British Transport Police say they are still investigating the circumstances of the collision.

Investigation work continues after level crossing crash

A pensioner who died after the car he was in was hit by a train on a level crossing in North Yorkshire is expected to be named today. The crash happened at the Ivy Lea level crossing at Rillington near Malton yesterday morning.

The line was closed for several hours while recovery work was carried out

Level crossing crash victim named

The British Transport Police has named a man who died when his car was hit by a train on a level crossing on May 7. Eric Ireland, 77, from Moorsholme in Scampston, died at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

“The police investigation into the incident is ongoing. Officers are working hard to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including how the vehicle came to be on the tracks at the time, and are working closely with colleagues from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch to determine exactly what led to the collision.”

British Transport Police are set to continue investigating a rail accident that caused the death of a man near Malton, on Wednesday.

A First TransPennine Express train was evacuated after it hit a car on a level crossing.

The 77- year-old, who was driving, has not yet been identified. No-one else was hurt.

Malton train evacuated after fatal crash

Emergency services have started the evacuation of a train which hit a car on a level crossing in North Yorkshire.
