50,000 expected at Middlesbrough Mela

Up to 50,000 visitors are expected to converge on central Middlesbrough on Saturday and Sunday (June 7 and 8) for the annual celebration of culture and diversity. It started at midday with a procession.

Hundreds of children have kickstarted the Middlesbrough Mela with a procession through the town.

With raincoats over brightly coloured costumes, they set off from the Town Hall at around midday.

It's the start of an annual celebration of culture and diversity.
