Miners' Gala arrives in Durham

The 130th Durham Miner's Gala has arrived in Durham city centre.

Hundreds of former Durham miners and their families are among the crowds as the Gala makes its way to the County Hotel at Old Elvet, where guest speakers will give speeches from 1pm.

Road closures for Miners' Gala

A number of roads have been closed for today's Durham Miners' Gala. The following routes will be shut until 8pm:

  • Framwellgate Bridge
  • Market Place
  • Saddler Street
  • Owengate
  • North and South Bailey
  • Dun Cow Lane
  • Bow Lane
  • SIlver Street
  • Elvet Bridge
  • New Elvet Bridge
  • Territorial Lane
  • Green Lane
  • Elvet Waterside
  • Court Lane
  • Elvet Crescent
  • Old Elvet
  • New Elvet
  • Pelaw Leazes to Baths Bridge

The following roads will be closed to vehicles only:

  • Church Street
  • Hallgarth Street
  • Whinney Hill

The following roads will be closed between 3pm and 8pm:

  • North Road
  • Flass Street
  • Sutton Street

Durham Miners' Gala gets underway

The 130th Durham Miners' Gala is underway in Durham.

The colliery bands have been marching through local villages, making their way into Durham city centre.

A number of road closures around Durham have been put in place.
