'Boy racers give us a bad name'

As seven men are convicted of illegally street racing on Newcastle's roads, the staff at a car shop have spoken up in defence of modified and "souped-up" cars.

Keith Tyler, from Revolution Motor Store in Gateshead, said the vast majority of his customers want to show their cars - not risk damaging them by racing.

Street racers plead guilty to offences

Seven men have been convicted after boys racers staged an illegal street race watched by crowds in Newcastle.

The men came to police's attention in September last year after officers found YouTube video showing a number of people racing.

All seven pleaded guilty to the offences, including racing on a public highway, dangerous driving and making false declarations to obtain insurance.
